Before climbing a pole there are some precautions you should take to ensure your safety. Learn how to do a cut out test to make sure your gaff will stay in the wood. A pole inspection should also be conducted to make sure the pole will hold you. Check for pole rot and other hazards using methods such as a sound check and a rock test.
